104 people on probation across the Shannonside Northern Sound region re-offended within one year in 2018
It comes as figures from the Central Statistics Office show that Roscommon had the second lowest rate of year-one re-offending during that year.
The figures from the CSO set out the percentage of people who were on probation who then reoffended within a timeframe of one year in 2018
According to the regional breakdown, Roscommon had the second lowest rate of one-year re-offences nationwide, at 12%. 20% of those on probation in Leitrim reoffended within one year, while in Longford 28% reoffended, the highest in the region. Cavan had the second highest rate in the region at 27% followed by Monaghan on 25%. Nationally, one in four cases of reoffending were public order offences which range from threatening or abusive behaviour, to disorderly conduct, to failing to comply with the directions of Gardaí. This was followed by Theft, Road and Traffic Offences, and Controlled Drug Offences.
The most likely age group to reoffend within one year were those under the age of 18, at 41%.
