The new Roscommon Hospice Palliative Care Unit is now accessible to patients from today.
The 6.3 million euro facility was launched by Minister Stephen Donnelly over a year ago with recruitment and legal agreements ongoing since then.

The eight bed centre is located on a site purchased by the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation and is under the governance and full operational management of Roscommon University Hospital.
Patients have access to care from a range of specialist medical, nursing and health and social care professionals.

Mary Garvey Manager of Roscommon Hospital says the facility will deliver seamless end of life care to patients and their families.

'Roscommon University hospital has clinical governance and operational management over at the unit here so that means that we will be responsible for running the unit in its entirety.
All the services of the hospital will be involved in supporting the units as well as the 30 additional staff.
