The Plastic Surgery Department at Roscommon hospital is to continue with a "photo triage" process to identify urgent cases for the foreseeable future.
The "photo triage" was set up during the Coivd-19 lockdown to replace face-to-face consultations.
Surgeon Deirdre Jones said that by 'phoning patients directly, asking a few key questions and requesting them to send a good quality photo of their skin lesion, they had been able to photo triage over 400 patients in the past few months.
She said by using the process they were able to identify patients who needed to attend hospital and reduce the number of people coming to the site.
The plastic surgeon says as they start to reintroduce services at the hospital it will no longer be possible to have large numbers of patients attending clinics, and they plan to continue with the photo triage process.
