New rapid road site drug tests have been rolled out to local Gardaí, with one arrest already made using the new method.
The DrugWipe roadside testing device works like an antigen test to detect if someone has been using illegal drugs.
The new system is now widely in use by Gardaí in the Roscommon Longford Division.
Local Gardaí yesterday arrested a motorist after they tested positive for cannabis at Dysart in Roscommon.
The driver of the vehicle was also found to be an unaccompanied learner driver with no "L" plates displayed.
They were arrested at the scene and will now face a court date.
