A Roscommon man has been honoured at a special event hosted by Cavan County Council this week.
Michael Hanley from Strokestown was honoured in recognition of his significant contribution to the economic landscape of Cavan.
The Roscommon man had a distinguished career spanning over 35 years with dairy co-ops, serving the last 16 as CEO of Lakeland Dairies.
He's credited with leading the transformation of the co-op to becoming the second largest such organisation on the island of Ireland.
Michael Hanley came from a farming background and is an Agricultural Science graduate of UCD.
He's also Chairman of the County Cavan Enterprise Fund.
As Member Relations manager he spearheaded the original 1990 campaign that saw the merger of Killeshandra and Lough Egish co-ops to form Lakeland Dairies.
Lakeland went on to combine with Lacpartick Dairies in 2019 in the biggest ever co-op merger in Ireland.
Paying tribute to Mr Hanley this week, Cavan Council Cathoirleach John Paul Feely said he had played a key role in the evolution of the dairy sector across the region.]
