A Roscommon councillor is calling on the government to live up to their promises for couples who have fertility issues.
Fine Gael councillor Liam Callaghan told a meeting of the council this week that couples had bene hoping that measures would have bene put in place by now to help them have a family.
Councillor Callaghan says under a commitment made in 2019 in the Programme for Government up to 6 regional hubs were due to have been put in place by now to help with IVF.
He says each round of IVF can cost between €6,000 and €10,000 euro and it is not fair that some couples simply can't even think of having children because they can't afford it.
The Fine Gael councillors motion to put pressure on government to establish the new hubs received widespread support and he says he hopes that some progress can be made soon for families who don't have the time to wait any more.
