A Roscommon automotive journalist says a survey released today on the price of second hand cars isn't borne out on the ground.
Padraig Deane who's Managing Editor of Automotive Publications says used cars haven't gone up by 63% per cent since before Covid as suggested in the report.
The Roscommon journalist says while there may be isolated examples of cars significantly increasing in value, the fact is that most haven't.
He says there are few bargains to be found for anyone buying or selling used cars at the moment, and the situation isn't likely to change before the end of this year.
'That's not a realistic figure at all .
What happens is when people do some surveys, they kinda pick out a spectacular thing.
You might be able to find instances of a €1,000 car that was €1,000 two years ago is now €1650, but in reality you won't find anything like a car that was €30,000 two years ago now being €45,000 , that's absolute nonsense.'
