Nature lovers in Roscommon are to be given an opportunity to get involved with maintaining and planting native woodland in the county.
The Native Woodland Trust is a registered Irish charity which aims to develop native woodland and adopt existing woodland in order to protect it for the future.
The trust plans to set up their first locally-led branches in the county in the coming weeks and one of them will be in Co.Roscommon.
A meeting is being held in St John's Hall Lecarrow on Monday the 24th of this month at 7 o' clock and anyone with an interest in getting involved with the project is invited to attend.
Jeremy Casey from the trust says they're delighted to have been able to get hold of some native forestry and land to plant more on in Roscommon
"Our site in Roscommon, particularly in Lecarrow, we've 17 acres about 500 metres from St John's Wood's southern border. We also have a small 11 acre property inside the woodland itself. It's a unique opportunity for us to, not only conduct woodland expansion which is one of our core projects, it's how we achieve our goals, but also a fantastic opportunity to involve the local community in this".
