A Roscommon parish hopes to honour Fr Raymond Browne by erecting a statue in his memory.
He served as parish priest in Kilbride for many years as well as working overseas and in Nigeria.
Fr Browne was committed to community development and recognised the need for housing the elderly as well as caring for people with disabilities.
He died, after a short illness in November 2020 and parishioners now hope to erect a statue to honour him close to St Brigid's Church in Four-mile-House as well as a seating area in Derrane.
The launch of the project will take place this Saturday evening in Kilbride Community Centre at 8:15pm where a documetary produced by Ronan Carley will be shown.
Chair of the memorial says Fr Browne is very deserving of the honour and a fundraising drive will also be launched this weekend.
'Feeley's Stone in Boyle is doing the statue for us but it is a parish initiative and for this event as well there is an iDonate page. We are talking about the region of 16,000 euro but we did get a voluntary contribution of 5,000 which has given us a great boost but we will need another 12 to finish the statue.'
