Roscommon planners approve new battery energy storage facility

The plans were the subject of a number of submissions highlighting public concerns with fire risks, water contamination and local fears over flooding.

Roscommon County Council have given the green light for a new battery energy storage system to be built at Lough Allen.

The plans from Arigna LDES Limited sought the installation of 56 battery containers and medium power stations at Tawlaght and Srabragan.

The application includes a new single storey IPP building, new access roads and civil engineering works on site.

The plans were the subject of a number of submissions highlighting public concerns with fire risks, water contamination and local fears over flooding.

The plan was approved with 19 conditions attached including the requirement for an updated Emergency Response Plan and the return of the land to its natural state at the end of the facilities lifespan.
