Roscommon County Council has almost 700,000 euro in extra funding for community and other initiatives next year because of increased property tax income.
It includes 75,000 euro for Tidy Towns programmes. Local councillors can increase or reduce property tax by up to 15 per cent from the basic rate set nationally.
Roscommon County Council last month decided to apply the maximum increase from the basic rate next year. As a result, it has 676,200 euro in extra funding for 2025 - which Independent councillor Tom Crosby welcomes.
The three municipal districts - Roscommon, Athlone and Boyle - are having their budget meetings today and tomorrow, when the money will be divided. 300,000 euro will be spent on community and enterprise initiatives.
191,200 will go to street cleaning. 22,500 is going to the emergency graveyard budget.
75,000 will go to graveyard grants, with the exact same amount going to Tidy Towns programmes. Each of the six Town Teams in the county will be allocated 12,500.
