Roscommon publican speaks out about increasing rate of pub closures

A report from the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland showed that there are 2,000 fewer pubs today than in 2005.

A local publican has named social media as one of the factors that has led to the closure of pubs across the region.
A report from the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland showed that there are 2,000 fewer pubs today than in 2005.

Co. Roscommon holds the highest drop, where a 32% decrease of pub numbers was reported.
The figure is followed by Leitrim at 28% and Longford at 27% fewer pubs currently operating.
Neil Sheridan is a publican at Spell's Bar in Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, he explained that the internet is changing local nightlife:
