New documents obtained by an Australian newspaper over the detention of a Roscommon resident in Iraq have renewed calls for his immediate release.
Engineer Robert Pether was sentenced to five years in jail in April 2021 after a contractual dispute between his employer and the Government in Iraq. The Guardian newspaper claim the information found undermines key evidence that the Iraqi authorities relied upon to jail the Elphin resident.
Robert's wife Desree says it difficult to see this new evidence come out yet her husband remains in prison. She's hoping to continue to raise awareness around this case. It's very hard to see this new evidence come out, and still the re-retrial application which has been in for over 7 weeks, there is now answer.
'I'm literally exhausted and crawling along the ground , so if anyone can just help spread awareness, that would be absolutely amazing, and I really really want to start spreading awareness about arbitrary detention globally and there's just too many families going through exactly what we're going through.'
