A Roscommon restaurant owner is welcoming news of the 9% VAT rate extension for the hospitality sector.
The measure, which was introduced to help businesses during the pandemic, will cost the State 250 million euro.
Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe says a reduced VAT rate will keep Ireland attractive to foreign tourists.
Eamonn Gleeson of Gleeson's Restaurant and Rooms in Roscommon town says it will be of huge benefit to combat rising costs within the sector.
He also believes it will allow for the creation of more summer jobs for young people.
Speaking to Shannonside FM news the Roscommon businessman says this extension is needed due to an uncertain tourist season ahead.
''It's great. It just adds a little bit more certainty to the tourism business like we haven't the tourists back yet. We're very much dependent on the Irish people to stay. The races were last night and we had a full house, but not so many Americans in yet not so many UK people in yet, you know, so it's indeed it's very, very welcome.''
