A Roscommon primary school has won a national title for growing their own vegetables and promoting biodiversity.
Tarmon National school, just outside Castlrea, was named as the Agri Aware Incredible Edibles Champion School for 2020/21.
The children produced a bumper crop of vegetables from their poly tunnel, successfully hatched chickens, and reused old tyres to create flower beds.
The Roscommon school beat off competition from nearly 1600 other entries with over 44,000 students getting involved in the Agri A ware competition.
The submission from first and second class taught by Michelle Flannery helped secure the title, however the entire school of 200 pupils came together to create brilliant submission.
This year's programme focussed on wellness while the biodiversity of the packs given to schools was enhanced by the addition of wildflower seeds for the first time.
We have won GOLD and the overall National award in the 2021 Incredible Edibles campaign!! 🥇This school-wide project was brilliantly led by Ms Flannery and every student contributed to our entry; we can’t wait for the presentation tomorrow! 🤩🌻🪴🌸 @DCUCMS @AgriAware pic.twitter.com/fKgJ6OMfyY
