A Roscommon Senator is calling on Eir to put more resources into servicing the landline section of their business.
Senator Eugene Murphy has raised concerns tin the Seanad this week about the length of time it takes for a landline to be repaired if it has broken down.
He says he's being contacted by a growing minority of people about the issue and it is causing distress for many.
Senator Murphy says many older people rely on their landline to link them to a personal security service and it's not good enough that they have to wait for several weeks to have the problem fixed.
'Landlines, particularly to senior citizens are breaking down, and there is no chance of getting them fixed for weeks and weeks and weeks,
We must always remember in relation to those landlines there is the security aspect, eh where many of them are linked up to the alarms
Would it be in order that we could write to Eir ? , I know they're no longer a semi-state body, I know we can't really invite them in here , we could invite them to another committee, but it really is a matter of grave concern to people .'
