A Roscommon senator is welcoming the commencement of improvement works along the N5 near Strokestown.
Eugene Murphy raised safety concerns last month following a number of collisions at the 'Turn of Farn'.
The Fianna Fail representative has confirmed the TII have appointed a contractor in recent days with works taking place on the road surface.
While Senator Murphy says the work is needed he is also renewing his call for speed warning signs to be installed on the Strokestown side of the turn.
"In recent days, the TII have a contractor on the road there, there's been quite a lot of work done with the surface again;. I'm confident what has been done will make this very safe for motorists, I hope it'll work out. I would still continue to fight for a set of modern warning lights on the Strokestown side of the Turn of Farn where passing traffic still tends to come in very quickly to that bend".
