Irish Water says it hopes a €20 million euro project in Roscommon town will help resolve issues of local flooding and pollution of local rivers.
The project announced recently is due to begin in the coming weeks and offices are already being established for the 18 month long project.
Eunan Canavan who is Regional Infrastructure Lead with Irish Water says the main reasons behind the project are environmental, but there will also be the benefit of expanding the sewer networks capacity allowing for future growth of the town.
He says that to help alleviate flooding and pollution during heavy rain events in the future six of the twelve overflow pipes from the town will be closed up and a number of storm water storage tanks will be built at various locations around the town.
