A Roscommon student says teenagers are welcoming news of reform to the traditional Leaving Certificate.
It was announced yesterday the revised format will focus on other forms of assessment with no exam accounting for more than 60 percent of a final grade.
Scoil Mhuire Strokestown Student Kate Wallace was highly commended at this year's BT Young Scientist Exhibition for her investigation into The Leaving Certificate.
While the 5th year student believes it will ease pressure she's worried that teacher based assessment elements of the plan may be problematic.
However, Kate believes reform is long overdue:
"I definitely think it is a really good idea. The leaving cert has a lot of pressure and it is an all or nothing exam at the end of two years. I do think they could have introduced it during Covid and kept it.
"I know they did try but it was given up on.
"It definitely could have been worked on more. I know this has been coming for a very long time. It is quite late for my year and the current leaving certs that would like it as well but at least future students will have the opportunity."
