Second level students in Roscommon who want to go on to third level education at NUI Galway are being encouraged to apply for a local scholarship scheme.
A scheme was established three years ago by the Jones family from Tulsk in memory of their parents Pauline and Bunnie.
The scholarships are valued at €10,000 euro per student and are awarded to four people, two from Scoil Mhuire in Strokestown, and two others from around the county who present the highest Leaving Certificate scores.
Deirdre Jones says her brother Adrian who lives in the US came up with the idea to invest in Roscommon's future in honour of their parents who had invested in them:
