A Roscommon supermarket owner has seen his electricity bill almost treble over the past year.
Neil Kennedy has been running the Londis Supermarket in Boyle since 1994 when he took over the family run business.
His last electricity bill last month was €8,245 compared to €3,225 twelve months previously.
The store that employs 17 staff members have been told that from this month the electricity rate will go up another 25%
The supermarket owner told Shannonside News that he wants to get more efficient refrigeration but there are no state grants available.
" Refrigeration would be my main consumption and when I looked at what costs would be involved I was told I'd be looking at 100,000 euros and that wouldn't even be for the full refit of the refrigerators in the store, when I looked into it I was told there are no grants in anyway to help us out with such a massive investment."
