A Ballinasloe school is being described as being in the 'Gaza Strip' as it struggles to access high-speed broadband.
Roscommon-Galway TD Michael Fitzmaurice has appealed to the Taoiseach to find a way that broadband providers can connect Scoil Uí Cheithearnaigh in Garbally Drive, which the Dail heard is within 50 metres of a high-speed connection point.
The Independent TD claimed that while the school had been provided with hardware, there was no internet access available for them to use laptops and tablets
He claimed that the Department of Education has told the school to go back to the service provider to try and resolve the issue despite other schools in the area having access to fast internet.
He said an announcement had been made previously that Ballinasloe would have "the fastest broadband speeds in the world" but this clearly wasn't the case for Scoil Uí Cheithearnaigh:
