Roscommon/Galway Deputy Michael Fitzmaurice says he believes a regulator with teeth is still badly needed for the beef industry here.
The Independent TD is a member of the Oireachtas committee which is hearing from the Beef Market Taskforce's report today.
The group has met 10 times since the protests over low prices in 2019.
Deputy Fitzmaurice says while prices right now are very good due to a low amount of stock available , this situation is likely to change next year because of low exports in 2021, and the dairy herd expansion.
The TD says from reading some of the report so far it's clear a lot more needs to happen before the industry is properly accountable.
