A Roscommon TD wants the Taoiseach to investigate communications between the Department of Environment and the Attorney General surrounding works at Lough Funshinagh.
Deputy Michael Fitzmaurice is alleging a phonecall was made by a department official to the State's solicitor opposing Roscommon County Council's flood works at the infamous Turlough.
He claims the Department was threatening to support a recent case taken by Friends of the Irish Environment which now prevents the local authority from reducing the level of water in the lough.
The Independent TD is calling on Micheal Martin to bring a resolution on the issue to Cabinet.
In response, the Taoiseach says while Government can't intervene in court judgements he will seek a full legal assessment of the court's outcome from the Attorney General.
Speaking in the Dail, Deputy Fitzmaurice wants action to be taken as a matter of urgency:
"So we had one arm of the state, in Dublin you could say, threatening to join with an environmental pillar and we had the Council, another arm of the state, and the OPW trying to do the job.
So how could you get work done, if you have a state functioning that way? And I am asking you will you look into that and will you also bring to the Cabinet as a resolution to this situation."
