Roscommon teenager Archie Naughton who died in July after battling Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy will be remembered at today's Dublin Marathon.
Archie, who was 16 when he died, had taken part in the event himself as an 'assisted runner' for 3 years.
He had planned to take part again this year when the marathon returned for the first time since the pandemic, but his younger brother Isaac will now take part in his place instead.
The boy's mother Paula says they plan to remember Archie especially during Mile 16 today.
"In fact it was Isaac that suggested that he would like to do it in memory of Archie, so on Sunday they are taking to the streets of Dublin along with 10 other runners this year and to raise awareness are Duchenne and do it in Archie's memory."
"At mile 16 Archie will be remembered and we are asking all participants of the event at mile 16 to do do mile 16 in memory of Archie, as he died at the age of 16 unexpectedly in July."
