The country must push forward with the reduction of Covid restrictions next week, but in a more controlled fashion than previously planned.
That's according to Roscommon native and Assistant Professor of Virology at UCD, Dr Gerald Barry, who says any reopening must come with certain conditions.
The planned reopening of society next Friday is likely to be delayed if Covid cases continue to rise very rapidly according to health experts.
The Roscommon man says that one of the keys to managing the reopening of society is a massive increase in testing for the population.
A decision will be made next Tuesday on the plans, with the entertainment and nightclub sectors criticising Government over a lack of communication.
Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, Dr Barry says the country cannot simply rely on vaccinations to ensure a safe reopening.
