Roscommon is the worst-performing local authority area in the country in meeting housing supply demands for its population. It comes as the CSO releases new figures which reveal the amount of housing units being built across the nation per capita. Last week's CSO report outlined the number of people living in each local council area for every new housing unit that was started in 2023.
Roscommon is recorded as the worst-performing area in the country, at one housing unit built for every 648 people of its population. Longford follows in second place, at 399 people for every new housing unit built. Meanwhile, the report shows that in Leitrim, one dwelling unit is constructed for every 258 of its residents. Nationally, South Dublin was the top-performing area, with one housing unit built for every 83 people living there as of 2023. The figures show a lack of housing supply in regional counties and the concentration of more housing developments along the eastern coast.
