Councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice says Market Fresh will shut on March 1 "after 26 wonderful years in business".

The cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council has announced the closure of his fruit and veg store in Castlerea.

Councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice says Market Fresh will shut on March 1 "after 26 wonderful years in business".

He said: "It has become increasingly difficult to survive as a small business in an already overcrowded market.

"I want to express my deepest gratitude to my many loyal customers and friends for your unwavering support, kindness and loyalty over the last 26 years.

"You have been the heart of this business and the reason why I enjoyed going to work every day.

"I certainly will miss the daily chats and interactions with you all in the shop.

"While it is bittersweet to say goodbye, I look forward to the next chapter in life."
