The mental health watchdog has highlighted significant staff shortages in Roscommon’s psychiatric unit.
It said the HSE recruitment embargo was having a negative impact.
This unit is in a single storey building in Roscommon Hospital.
The Mental Health Commission carried out an unannounced inspection there in May, but only released its report today.
It found the unit was not adequately staffed.
The watchdog said there were vacant posts in several areas, including medical, nursing, occupational therapy, and psychology.
It said this directly impacted on the care of patients.
It found the HSE recruitment embargo was impacting on recruitment for the vacant positions.
The watchdog also found issues with the premises, which used to be a maternity ward.
It said patients did not have enough space to move around, including outdoor spaces.
Raising privacy issues, it said the rooms were not sufficiently guarded from public view and window blinds were broken in three rooms.
