The roundabout at Carriglass in Co.Longford will be named after one of the town's most prominent historical figures.
Tom Reddington was the officer commanding the Longford Brigade of the IRA during the war of independence and was accidentally shot dead by one of his own men in Carriglass.
Councillor Gerry Hagan put forward the motion to rename the roundabout at the most recent meeting of Longford County Council.
The motion was passed unanimously and the decision will now go to the naming committee which will make the final decision.
