A south Roscommon councillor says he hopes the funding announced today under Rural Regeneration will help in the efforts to develop a better community in the Monksland area.
Plans have been made over the past year or so to integrate services and homes in the area which has seen significant population growth in the last decade.
Councillor John Keogh says the €1.2 million announced today will allow the plan to be brought to design stage.
In Strokestown, the Cathaoirleach of Roscommon Council says their funding of over €600,000 will be used to help prepare the town for the challenge of being bypassed in the next few years.
Strokestown qualified for funding last December under the Town Centre First plan and Councillor Joe Murphy says this new funding will also help with plans for the changes that will come.
