Safety measures must be implemented along the N61 following the indefinite postponement of the Ballymurray to Knockcroghery bypass.
That's according to Councillor Laurence Fallon who says concerns over dangerous junctions on the busy stretch haven't went away.
Roscommon Councillors were recently informed by Transport Infrastructure Ireland that the bypass will not be going ahead but lands along a 300 metre stretch will remain frozen.
The Independent representative says this will have serious impacts on local residents who wish to build or sell in the coming years.
It's understood the TII will release some funding to carry out an in-depth study on possible safety solutions and the Rahara native is calling for this to be competed as a matter of urgency.
''One thing that could that could be done rather quickly is the reduction to the speed limit around Ballybay school. And that in itself would be a step in the right direction. And I think there was some movement on that and some desire on that. And that's been left with the senior engineers and Roscommon county council to try to work out it and make progress there. All in all, the meeting was unsatisfactory with regard to safety issues on the N 61 because there was no timeframe given for anything.''
