The sale of new electric cars in the Shannonside region decreased by almost a third in the first six months of this year.
26 were registered in Leitrim between January and June - compared to 39 in the same period in 2023.
That drop of 33 per cent compares to a 30 per cent decrease in Longford, and 29 per cent drop in Roscommon.
Local Independent TD Denis Naughten, a former environment minister, says the value of second-hand electric vehicles is a concern for many people.
"There is concern being expressed by people regarding the trade-in value of electric vehicles, particularly in terms of the European electric vehicles," he said.
"I think there is a responsibility on European manufacturers, along with the European Commission, to try to provide reassurance to motorists that, if they purpose electric vehicles, there will be a trade-in market for it."
