The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland is urging low income homeowners in the Shannonside Northern Sound region to apply for energy upgrade schemes, despite the backlog.
People on payments such as jobseekers, working family or carers allowance are eligible for the Free Energy Upgrades scheme, which allows for insulation and heating systems.
While the delay in the delivery of the programme stood at one year pre Covid it now stands at two years.
However SEAI says it has developed a new panel tendering system to increase capacity to reduce the waiting time.
