Searches are underway on the River Shannon after a man entered the water in Rooskey late last night.
Emergency services rushed to the scene in the village last night after the man was seen in the water floating downstream.
The coastguard helicopter R118 based in Sligo was scrambled to the scene and was involved in searches until around 2am.
Gardai as well as Roscommon Civil Defence began searches this morning at first light and have described the river current as strong.
Searches are continuing south of Rooskey towards Tarmonbarry and landowners and farmers with property adjacent to the river are being asked that if they see anything of interest to contact the gardai in Castlerea.
