An Egyptian vulture has been sighted near Lough Funshinagh in Roscommon for what is believed to be the second sighting for the county and the third ever recorded in the country.
The first recorded sighting of this bird species took place in Donegal last July, however, it cannot be determined if this is the same bird.
He was initially observed on the morning of New Year's Eve last by the National Parks and Wildlife Services warden for Lough Rea, Owen Murphy along with Athlone photographer Conor Henry.
Yesterday Conor again noticed the rare vulture and photographed him near Lough Funshinagh close to the same location that he was seen two months previously.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound news the Athlone native who studies Wildlife Biology describes what the rare bird looks like.
