A full security review is underway in Lebanon after the death of a young Irish soldier
Private Seán Rooney, who was stationed in and lived most of his life in Dundalk, was among eight Irish Defence Force personnel travelling in two armoured vehicles which came under attack around 30 miles south of Beirut on Wednesday night.
A second soldier, Private Shane Kearney from Co. Cork, was seriously injured and underwent surgery.
Former Soldier and Independent Senator Gerard Craughwell says if the investigations highlight any security concerns then they will be addressed.
''One thing I am pretty sure of is that following incidents like this, there will be a complete review of security. There'll be a complete review of how they operate in Lebanon. And If changes need to be made, I'm sure the Chief of Staff will implement those changes immediately.''
