A local support group says that a hybrid working model within county councils will help involve more women in politics.
See Her Elected is a programme to support women in rural constituencies to become county councillors.
Mairéad O'Shea is the communications manager for the group.
The Roscommon native says that the flexibility of remote or hybrid working is key for women in the field.
"Well it's up to the councils and the councillors themselves to look for that and to make it part of their programme going forward so we have a mix of hybrid and in-person meetings. That is making it more flexible for women because unfortunately women, disproportionately, are responsible for more of the care responsibilities whether that's childcare or elderly parents and very often councillors can often be juggling another part-time job as well. So that flexibility is key".
