A Sinn Fein senator is questioning how a decision to grant planning for a wind farm in south Longford will fit into the national peatlands strategy
Planning permission was granted in June for a large scale wind farm in Derryadd- with considerable disappointment locally at the decision.
An Bord Pleanala claimed the erection of the turbines should not be a significant factor in preventing the further development of the area and rejected its own inspector's recommendation that the project should not be approved.
The south Longford area had been previously earmarked as an area where a Mid Shannon Wilderness Park could be developed with bog rehabilitation central to those plans.
