Any funds gained from a proposed windfall tax targeting energy companies must be used to develop Ireland's renewable energy infrastructure.
That's according to local Fine Gael Senator Aisling Dolan who says any revenue from such a tax must be invested in helping reduce costs for the public.
The proposal was submitted by the Social Democrats after several high-profile energy and fuel companies posted record-breaking profits in the first 6 months of the year.
They've been heavily criticised for 'profiteering' off the back of the cost of living crisis caused by the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Speaking to the Joe Finnegan show today, Senator Dolan says state-owned energy companies are already developing renewable infrastructure.
