The Government committed to the unit in 2011 after Roscommon Hospital's A&E closed.

Cllr Sean Moylan was speaking following the Fianna Fáil Senator's announcement that he would be contesting the forthcoming General Election.

Senator Murphy was previously defeated at the party's selection convention by Dr Martin Daly and failed in a bid to be added to the ticket in Roscommon-Galway.

The party has selected a single candidate to contest the election in Roscommon Galway, in the form of Dr Martin Daly, a Ballygar based GP and former IMO President.

It's after his party refused to add him to its ticket in the constituency, after Ballygar GP Martin Daly beat him in a selection convention.

Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board submitted their proposals last year, which involved workshops in a 22,000-square foot building.

He's hoping the party will add him to the ticket in Roscommon-Galway, so he can run alongside Ballygar GP Martin Daly.
