Senator Eugene Murphy is calling for more IDA investment in Co. Roscommon.
The Fianna Fail representative made the call during a debate in the Seanad this morning with the Minister for Trade Promotion about foreign direct investment and job creation for the county.
He says despite huge investments in Monksland and Castlerea by the IDA, there is very little planned for the future by the agency for Roscommon town
The Fianna Fail Senator says there are suitable units for further planning in Ballaghaderreen despite very few investments since Albert Reynolds' time and very few IDA visits.
In a response to Senator Murphy, Minister Dara Calleary noted the west of Ireland has 126 companies employing 31,490 people thanks to IDA.
Minister Calleary says he'll be visiting Roscommon with the West Region Office members in the coming weeks.
Senator Murphy says there are investment opportunities available in the North West Roscommon region:
'We also I think in my opinion need more of a focus on towns like Boyle, Strokestown, Ballaghaderreen and in some of those towns you have units that were built by people and they are quite suitable for 50,60,70 jobs. They would be so vital and so important for towns like that.'
