Roscommon Senator Eugene Murphy says social housing plans for Elphin won't detract from regeneration plans.
The Fianna Fail representative was reacting to concerns expressed following his announcement that approval has bene given for 3 new social homes at the former Elphin courthouse.
A number of concerns have bene raised that this could mean that plans to develop the area as a community hub are not going to go ahead..
Senator Murphy says he understands that while the council had sought approval for the housing development, plans are also still under consideration for regeneration.
''This is a very, very small development , 3x two bedroom units, and they are necessary for local needs. And that's what they'll be put in for. I understand that we still have, you know, a lot of exciting plans in relation to the courthouse and the courthouse area in relation to rejuvenation of the town. And while I can understand that led to some confusion with people over this small housing development, as far as I'm concerned, other plans in relation to community services being put in the town of Elphin are very much alive.''
