Seven people in the Shannonside region have received nominations to contest this month's Seanad Eireann Elections.
The Seanad comprises of 49 Senators across five vocational panels and two university panels along with 11 Taoiseach appointments bringing the total to 60.
Any citizen of Ireland who is over the age of 21 can become a senator with any incoming or outgoing Oireachtas members eligible to vote as well as sitting county and city councillors.
Graduates of any National University of Ireland or Trinity College Dublin are also entitled to vote on the two University panels.
Three sitting or outgoing Senators are seeking to keep their seats, all of whom sought to gain or retain a seat in November's General election.
Sitting Senators Aisling Dolan of Fine Gael and Eugene Murphy, now Independent, are looking to retain their Seanad seats through the Agriculture panel after failing to secure a seat in the Lower House
Fianna Fail's Joe Flaherty lost his seat in Longford Westmeath as a TD and was subsequently appointed to the outgoing Seanad by the Taoiseach due to gaps left by those in the house getting elected to the Dail.
He's now seeking election on the Cultural and Education panel.
A number of sitting County Councillors in the region are also seeking to move to Leinster House.
Longford's Paraic Brady and Leitrim's Paddy O'Rourke are both seeking a seat after nominations through Agriculture panel.
While Roscommon native and NYC St Patrick’s Day Foundation founder Hilary Beirne and Roscommon Homeless Advocate Mairead Kenny are seeking to take one of three seats on the National University of Ireland Panel .
The polls for the election will close at the end of this month with the counting to begin straight after.
