Seven people in Shannonside Region have appeared on the latest tax defaulters list from Revenue. The list includes people from across the country found to have committed offences such as the failure to lodge income tax returns, misuse of marked mineral oil or the smuggling of illegal tobacco. The highest fine in the region went to former RTE GAA Commentator Brain Carty who owed Revenue €129,000 in 2023 for under declaration of income tax, PAYE/PRSI, USC and VAT.
Trading as Sliabh Ban Productions, the Strokestown native had €109,000 outstanding at the end of last year. Elsewhere in the region, two men were fined €1,250 each in Athlone for failure to lodge income tax. Three men in Roscommon were fined a similar amount in Castlerea, Frenchpark and Elphin under the same heading. Meanwhile a man in Kilashee in Longford was fined €2,500 for the smuggling of Tobacco.
