An Bord Pleanala has received at least 70 submissions relating to an application to build over 430 homes in Athlone.
The application by Castlestar Athlone Limited for the Coosan, Cornamagh and Clonbrusk area has been submitted directly to the National planning board under its Strategic Housing Infrastructure programme.
The development consists of 237 houses and 189 apartments in four blocks on sites stretching north of the Coosan road, between the Bounty pub and the Churchfields and Church Hills estates with the Glen estate to the south.
A spokesperson for the Strategic Housing Infrastructure unit says that at least 70 submissions have been received in respect of this development.
They will be checked over the next three days and all valid submissions will be prepared for an inspector to consider before presenting a recommendation to the Board.
The valid submissions will also be sent to Westmeath County Council which will prepare a file that can be viewed by the public.
The spokesperson says that there is no indication yet of the breakdown between submission, observations or objections or the balance from the general public, local groups, political representatives utilities or public bodies such as TII.
It's not clear yet either if any of the submissions have requested an oral hearing to be held which may be considered by the Bord.
A decision is due on the application on October 27th next.]
