A Shannonside-based guidance Counsellor doesn't believe the delay in the release of Junior Certificate results will not majorly affect local students .
It was announced today that last year's junior cert students will receive their exam results on the 23rd of November.
The Department of Education has cited a lack of teachers and the second sitting of the Leaving Cert among some of the causes of the wait.
Betty McLoughlin is a Former National President of Institute of Guidance Counsellors and says that it's quite late in the year for students to change subjects if they're not happy with their results.
Speaking to Let's Talk today, the Mullingar based Guidance Councillor says that the priority had to be on correcting and releasing the Leaving Cert results first
"It would've been of course a help to them and a motivator, but we are where we are. I would also say that by the 23rd of November, a significant amount of teaching time would be lot if you were to change subjects then, based on those results. It's not as important in the large scale of things. We know the leaving cert is a gateway exam, it determines an awful lot for students. They had to get their results and they had to get started at 3rd level".
