Shannonside region gears up for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations

Some parades are already taking place today, while others will be kicking off tomorrow, Monday.

A number of events will be taking place as the Shannonside region gets ready to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

In Longford, celebrations will be officially commencing today.

Proceedings in Ballymahon are scheduled to commence at 3:30 pm, with two main overriding themes having been penciled in.

While the people of Ballinamuck are getting ready to host their third St. Patrick's Day parade today at 4 pm.

Meanwhile in Lanesboro/Ballyleague, organisers are hoping its decision to keep up its tradition of hosting the parade on St. Patrick's Day which this year falls on Bank Holiday Monday will entice patrons from near and far.

The action is set to commence at 2:30 pm with a whole host of colourful and eye-catching floats.

While Longford Town will be treated to a brand-new format for the St. Patrick's celebrations this year, with the main event set to rock the town with a procession, live music, dancing and family fun taking place this evening.

Our very own Daniel Considine will be Master of Ceremonies for the event, with the parade getting underway at 5:30 pm.

In Roscommon, Ballintubber St Patrick's Day parade committee is looking forward to another very successful parade at 3 pm on Monday.

While the parade in Elphin is set to be a family fun filled day. This year’s theme is cultural inclusion and there will be prizes for the best float, best dressed dog, best decorated tractor and best dressed window in the town.

It will get underway at 5:30 pm, with face painting from 4 pm to 6 pm.

Ballaghaderreen Town Team and the St. Patrick's Day Parade committee are getting ready for their parade, which commences at 2:30 pm on Monday.

While the St. Patrick's Day parade in Boyle will get underway at 3:30 pm on Monday, starting at Apple Green and finishing on the Crescent.

In Leitrim, the first parade in the county will kick off at 12:30 pm in Aughavas.

That's followed by the parade in Carrick-on-Shannon, getting underway at 1 pm, with assembly at 12:30 pm.

In Fenagh, a family fun day will be held at 11 am, followed by the parade at 2 pm.

Leitrim Village's parade kicks off at 3 pm, and will feature parade prizes, music, a magician, and face painting.

In Mohill, Grand Marshal Lloyd Donnelly leads the parade at 4 pm with light refreshments after.

In Drumshanbo, Leitrim Volunteer of the year Eamon McGowan will lead the parade as Grand Marshal and DJ DL will get the crowd pumped for the festive spirit at 3 pm.
