The department's Void programme has been in operation since 2014, with the funding originally designed to tackle long term vacant units but is now being aimed at ensuring minimal turnaround and re-let times for local authority vacant stock. In 2022, the Department allocated a national fund of 25 million euro to be made available to local authorities across the country for the remediation of 2,273. Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon received funding for just 104 of these homes out of the national total. Longford County Council received the highest level locally, with funding to return 55 vacant social homes back to letting standard this year. Roscommon saw a total of 30 home repairs funded to date in 2020, while in Leitrim, the local authority was allocated the resources for 19 vacant properties.
Dublin city saw the greatest amount of support with 359 units funded, while outside the city, Cork County Council received the largest allocation.
