A local university has secured a multi-million euro investment in its research and innovation operations. The Technological University of the Shannon announced today that 12 million euro has been secured for the Athlone and Limerick based institution through a TU RISE funding call. TU RISE is co-financed by the Government of Ireland and the European Union and is designed to encourage more agile research and innovation offices, increased levels of postgraduate research, and enable cross-cutting research-led teaching.
According to TÚS, the focus of this funding will be on facilitating innovation strategies, strengthening existing partnerships and forging fresh alliances with local business communities. Reacting to the announcement today, TÚS President Professor Vincent Cunnane says sectors such as Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering, Biopharma, Life Sciences, ICT and Creative Industries will benefit from the funds in the long term.
